The Monroe County Mississippi BOOK OF THE DEAD is a work in progress. As inventories are completed and transcriptions prepared and alphabetized lists of burials are written, they will be published here. Eventually all of the lists will be combined into a single index.

Chapter 5. Sartor Cemetery, transcription and inventory completed February 9, 2009. Click title to go to the Sartor Cemetery Blog for an alphabetized list of names and dates from the grave markers. Chapter 7. Bethlehem Cemetery. An inventory of the burials recorded on the grave markers at Bethlehem Cemetery, a map to the cemetery, and other information has been posted at the Bethlehem Cemetery Blog. Go to Bethlehem Cemetery for a transcription of the 644 burials found there. Links to photographs of all of the grave markers at Bethlehem Cemetery are now online.

Chapter 7. Baker Cemetery, Greenwood Springs, click title for article and link to inventory

Chapter 8. Crenshaw Cemetery, Greenwood Springs, click title for lists of burials, alphabetized lists of names, map, and general information. On April 14, 2009, a photographic inventory was made of all of the grave markers and from those photographs lists were prepared. Links are provided to each of the grave marker photographs.

Chapter 14. Old Center Cemetery has been inventoried, photographed, and partially annotated with census and other data and posted online. Chapter 15. Cox-Gilliland Cemetery has been inventoried and photographed. Chapter 16. Gilleylen Cemetery # 2 has been inventoried, photographed, and transcribed in an article at Cemeteries of the Hill Country. As far as can be determined, this is the first online publication of an inventory of marked graves of this traditional black cemetery near Hatley, Monroe County, Mississippi.

Chapter 17. Jones Cemetery, located along Highway 23 east of Smithville, has been photographed and inventoried. A list of burials, photographs and other family history are posted at the blog Hill Country of Monroe County Mississippi. Click here to read Jones Cemetery.

Chapter 20. Riggan Chapel Cemetery is now online. RIGGAN CHAPEL CEMETERY 2009 consists of three parts.
